In the Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh, a Dalit woman was allegedly raped by two men at gunpoint, including a former village head, IANS reported.
The incident occurred a week ago, but on Sunday, October 18, the police were told about the alleged rape, PTI reported.
“Police Superintendent (Kanpur Dehat) Keshav Kumar Choudhary said:” According to a complaint filed by the parents of the victim, when the 22-year-old woman was alone, the accused barged into their house and raped her at gunpoint in turns.
If she dared to talk about the incident to anyone, they left after threatening her with dire consequences.Under the specific parts of the IPC and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, a case has been registered.
In addition to a SWAT squad, three police teams led by SHO Derapur, circle officer and additional SP, were formed to arrest the absconding accused, IANS said.
The incident comes a month after the death of a 19-year-old Dalit woman after she was allegedly raped and brutalised on 14 September in Hathras, which sparked a nationwide uproar.
The survivor of the Hathras died on 29 September in a hospital in Delhi. Presently, the CBI is investigating the case. Just days after the Hathras incident, in the Barabanki district, another Dalit girl was raped and murdered.
