It was a moment of numerous celebrations for the Indian Army when Captain Preeti Choudhary led the upgraded Schilika weapon system on Sacred Rajpath on Tuesday. This was the first time that the Republic Day Parade featured Schilika. And this year, Captain Preeti Choudhary was the only female Army officer leading a contingent.
The improved Schilika is able to track and shoot enemy targets on the ground for up to 2 kilometers and in the air for around 2.5 kilometers.
Interestingly, Captain Preeti was part of the National Cadet Corps and, as an NCC cadet, took part in the 2016 Republic Day Parade.
I got this chance because it is the equipment of my regiment, not because of my gender,”I received this opportunity because it is my regiment’s equipment, not due to my gender,”
In her crown, Captain Preeti has many feathers. During the Officers Training Academy’s passing-out parade, she was Chandigarh’s first woman to be awarded the Sword of Honor, intended for the best all-round cadet of a batch. She was also the first NCC Cadet airman from Chandigarh to be chosen for that honour.
Captain Preeti is a graduate of Chandigarh, the Government College for Girls. and her father Captain Inder Singh is honorary captain who served in the Army Medical Corps.
