A four-year – old girl from Hathras, allegedly raped by her relative, died during care at a hospital in Delhi, police said Tuesday.
Senior Police Superintendent Muniraj G said the minor was held captive at a relative’s house in the Iglas area of Aligarh district and was rescued on September 17.
“Police raided the home, which belonged to a relative of the victim, found the girl and admitted her to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College hospital on a complaint from a social organisation, where she was being treated until four days ago,” the SSP told reporters.
After her condition worsened and she died on Monday, the girl was transferred to Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital.A medical checkup on the girl confirmed the rape.
On September 21, the police registered a FIR on the complaint of a girl’s father, a resident of a village in the district of Hathras, that he believed the girl had been raped in captivity. The 15-year-old relative who admitted to his crime was then arrested by police, the SSP said.
“The mother of the child, who is the victim’s maternal aunt (Mausi), is confirmed to be an accomplice in the crime and is missing,” he said.
The family of the victim sat with her body on the main road in Hathras on Tuesday in protest against the police’s failure to arrest the woman. They decided to perform the last rites after persuasion by senior police officials.
The SSP said the SHO police station in Iglas was closed because of incompetence.
Two police teams were set up to locate the missing woman.
Amidst the wide outrage on the previous Hathras case in which a nineteen year old girl was allegedly gangraped and murdered, this incident is a shame to the Uttar Pradesh police.
