A Big Step: Women Scholarship Program Is A Part Of Chandigarh University

To mark the celebration of motherhood in every woman on International Mother’s Day, Chandigarh University Gharuan today announced the intake of the ‘Women Empowerment Scholarship Program’ for all of its July-2020 Distance Education programs. Under the newly introduced scholarship plan, all women, including housewives, women working in the government & private sector, Anganwadi Workers, Asha Workers, women working in an unorganized sector, drop-out female students for all of the university’s Distance & Online Education programs, would receive 20 percent academic scholarship. Chandigarh University is currently offering 5 Undergraduate and 5 Postgraduate programs in the sciences.

Speaking in detail about the Empowering Women Scholarship Plan, Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor, Chandigarh University said, “It’s right to say that when you educate a man, you educate an individual, but when you educate a woman, you educate a nation, and we offer academic scholarships to encourage more women to continue their higher education because they couldn’t do it for one reason or another. Women’s participation in top positions in India’s government and private sector is only 6 percent, which can be attributed to the high drop-out rate in women.

The Chancellor added, “The female population accounts for 49% of the total population of the country, while the number of women pursuing graduation is only 58%, which further drops to 47% at post-graduation point. As a result, 22 per cent of India’s total workforce accounts for the percentage of working women.

Dr. S.S.Sehgal, Registrar, Chandigarh University said, “Online Education means ‘Education Anywhere Anytime & Anyone’ and it seems to be the best option for women who either work or are a housewife, as they can continue to pursue higher education along with their daily routine.”

“The admissions for the July 2020 intake are currently under way and we call on women from all sectors of society to take advantage of the university’s announced scholarship policy and be part of the initiative and contribute to building New India,” Dr. Sehgal added.
